Chicago style er'thang! @ 8:28 PM
11 comments

Please excuse my grammar......especially if my grammar instructor Ms. White is reading.....but I have to be real when it comes to the food in chicago. I visited the windy city (which I learned has nothing to actually do with wind) for the first time in July and I saw that as far as food is concerned they put a spin on just about anything! There's Chicago style pizza....hot dogs.....popcorn.....etc.! I was definitely on a food adventure.

Ok.....let's start with some ground rules: Rule #1 Don't put ketchup on your hot dog. No really....it's like a sin in Chicago. I laughed at my friend Lindsey when she told me this.....until I saw this sign in the airport. Whoa.....they are serious. Apparently, if you are caught putting ketchup on your hot dog....they know you are a "visitor".

....and let's talk about their hot dogs....because these are not your mama's hot dogs! Now, if you are new to "Chicago style" dogs they can be a bit intimidating. I mean hearing that it consists of an an all beef frank on a poppy seed bun topped with mustard, chopped white onions, tomatoes, sweet pickle relish, peppers, a dill pickle spear, and a dash of celery salt can be quite overwhelming for a traditional hot dog eater. But nothing is too intimidating for me! Well I will admit that I was just going to take a picture and keep it moving....but I was a champ....and I'm glad that I tried it. I now secretly crave chicago dogs....sssshhhhhhh

Enough about dogs......let's talk about the pizza....not just any pizza....Chicago deep dish pizza....and boy was it deep! I tried two different deep dish pizza spots in Chicago and Gino's East won my heart. You can't really go out for deep dish pizza on an empty stomach....and if you do you should order an appetizer because it takes a while to cook....and rightfully so!

This pizza.......yum!

How come I seem to stand in line for all the good treats a city has to offer? In D.C it was cupcakes.....in Chicago it's popcorn!

Garrett's Popcorn

and of course the best flavor mix has a name: the Chicago mix. It's a combination of the cheese popcorn + caramel popcorn. Oh.my.gosh. I bought $20 worth of popcorn to bring home....and left it at my friend's house *sad*

Good service is expected when you dine....well not at Ed Debevic's, a Chicago diner known for bad service. You have to have a sense of humor to dine here.......

Our waitress did a great job at being rude.....she told us to be ready to order when she got back, threw our napkins at us, and yelled at me because I asked for honey mustard!

The food isn't to die for....you really only come here for the experience. I had a burger.....blah.

The other deep dish pizza spot I tried was Edwardo's. According my friend Whitney, it's the best kept secret in Gold Coast while everyone is lined up at Giordano's.

It was deep and good!

I'm a newly 30 (and I stress newly) year old attorney with a passion for good food. I guess I would fall under the category of "foodie" I love to eat.... sleep..... shop.... and eat! I find that my friends will often come to me for recommendations on restaurants for special occasions such as birthday dinners. The hardest question for me to answer is, "What is your favorite food"..... I really don't have "A" favorite food... because I truly enjoy eating a wide variety of cuisines. I decided to start this blog because I'm tired of hearing my facebook friends complain about me uploading food pictures every other week. Why not channel these pictures into a more effective mode of communication like a blog... and there you have it... the birth of Chow Bella! Enjoy!.... or should I say... Bon Appetite!
